Milestones

It seems like, with a two year old, every day brings something new and lots of firsts. Canyon never seems to let a day pass without making our jaws drop for some reason or another! We have gotten accustomed (well, as much as one can) to the shrieking in the back seat over every tractor or dump truck. We have even gotten used to watching the Cars movie every morning, but then there are those things that slap us in the face and make us realize that he is no longer a baby! This week he has started saying phrases, and recognizing the he is an I. Things like I want to see ("I on do tee"), "I want to go outside with Blake ("I on doe aside a Bake"), Kailey is done going potty ("Adee a du oppy"), I'm poopy (gotta love that one!!!) ("I oopy") or the ever entertaining I'm poopy again ("I oopy a non"). The other day Mom called and he was very eager to talk on the phone. We have pictures of ALL our family and some close friends on our walls, so the kids don't forget anyone. And he is familiar with who the family is that we hear from on the phone. Anyway I handed him the phone to hear "Hi Ommy", he proceeded to walk around the house telling Grammy about his most favorite things (his tractor (actor), his Cars (dars) on his bedroom wall, and his big truck (bi buh)). Once I noticed his babbling was just a lot of... well, babbling, I told him to tell Grammy bye... so he did "Bye, wob oo"! Things perhaps only a mother and Grammy could appreciate... and Daddy too. Daddy is proud to share "warrior fists" with his son and is beginning to realize that it wont be too long and they will be able to be boys together! OH and most importantly ~ I want healthy chocolate ("I eby yaw"). He's going to keep our business flourishing!
This morning, my heart strings were tugged, and yet another realization came that my baby is growing up. I was in the bathroom, with the door locked (that's the only time I get any me time!!) when I heard him trying to open it up. I asked "hey, who's out there?" and I heard "A me, Tanyon". ~gulp... sigh...smile~ . Then I stayed in there just a little longer so we could repeat his new phrase a few more times. He is well on his way to being a full fledged toddler! And I will be OK with that... eventually! He also picked up Kailey's scooter and, in true boy fashion, figured out how to ride instantly! It all happens so fast!

Anyway... enough of the sappy! Speaking of toddlers... or almost beyond a toddler, Kailey is following right along in her mommy and big sisters footsteps and is getting the art of being clumsy mastered! Besides the normal I've-only-been-walking-for-two-years trips and falls she has another black eye! She was over at a friends the other day and ran into a door knob (that's my girl!!) that evening when she was getting a snack and walking to the table, she decided she needed to say something silly to daddy on the way and turned her head to look at him. When she turned back around the back of the char was right there, and SMACK.. same eye! THEN a couple days later she was being silly and walking around with a hat over her head and ran into the corner of the island hitting the bridge of her nose... and those of you who have never had the privilege of hearing her cry, the best way I can think to describe it is a howling hurt donkey. :) (I say that with the most abundant love in my heart). Uncle Clay has commented a few times on how funny it is to see her and have this little pretty thing looking at you and then hearing her sometimes nasally voice, or cry, and how it just doesn't seem to fit! She is our "little precious".

Ashlyn has been loving choir. With just 2 weeks under her belt she is already a professional (or so she seems to think sometimes!). We are looking forward to going and seeing her at her school for the Christmas program and at the mall where they are going to perform. This is going to be a big step for her because, like me, she doesn't really enjoy getting up and being in front of people, although with her pageant experiences she is getting much stronger! The difference will be that in the pageants the audience is hidden in the darkness and at the mall she'll be out in the open. She has a great teacher this year too. She has had lots of fun stories when she comes home each day, and had a few extra recesses this week because they "have been doing testing, and Ms. Earl doesn't like testing, so we get recess.". I guess this is the age also where you start getting "best friends" and "you can have as many as you want" so, counting Ashlyn's, we have 5 birthday parties this month! Ashlyn is going to have to learn the art of budget gifting!

Blake... Blake, Blake, Blake - Oh how I had suppressed my days in high school... the drama! The only thing I have not liked about living with a high schooler is replaying my high school years! Its funny how we can look back and feel so foolish about things we cannot change... EVER! He is a natural at anything musical and plays the drums in the high school band. I have heard him on many occasions "playing" with the keyboard I have (I'm really glad that is getting used!) and sounding like he is following sheet music. He was confident that he would be able to stay stron - be a warrior- while he was hare and not give into the female influences.. he has done ok... but there are days he goes home with bigger grins than other days.. and I can see right through it! Those tend to be the days that he insists he cannot go another day without a cell phone (I have dated myself significantly by insisting that many intelligent people - including doctors AND lawyers - have come from the days where high school kids didnt have cell phones! I can't beleive I am giving those lectures in my 30's! My EARLY 30's)! Overall though, he is doing awesome! He had almost straight A's on his midterm report with the exception of one B in percussion from missing the first football game of the year. HE and CJ still tend to be a source of amusement in the home, and only a couple of times have seemed to be getting bored of eachother! (Sorry, the picture was the best I could do - Blake refuses to smile for a camera!)

Now, onto my dear dear hubby! Didn't I point out in an earlier post the we just wouldn't be us if we didn't have drama?! Well, this week also was no exception. First off CJ sold his Storks pick-up. He is hoping to get out of the meat business and start focusing more on chocolate. CJ, being the guy that he is, met a guy in the Wal-Mart parking lot who was interested in buying the business' assets. So they talked and met and the money was transferred from the buyers bank to B of A, where the truck loan was. CJ proceeded to find the truck he wanted, and purchase it. Its a beautiful truck. A F350, same year as his F150, but rated to haul a heavier load. (We have had lots of truck problems due to the amount of weight he was loading in the bed of the truck). PLUS the new truck has a warranty! Woo hoo! All said, we're only going to be paying less than $50 more a month. So it was a great deal (no drama yet, right?) Well, 2 weeks after the sale, and purchase, CJ got a call from B of A stating that the truck payment was late because the wire transfer had been reversed! Basically, the truck had not been paid for and we were still responsible for the payments! (tah-dah! now, we've got drama!) My first response was, call the police, this guys stole your truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CJ's first response was there must be some kind of mistake, I know this wouldn't happen on purpose. My response to that was - call the police, this guys stole your truck!!!!!!!!!!!!! I proceeded to get every bit of information on the truck, including the bill of sale both CJ and this guy had signed. CJ did a very good job maintaining his composure and insisted that there was some kind of mistake. He tried to call the guy... cell phone number changed. He went to the credit union the guy belongs to and talked to the branch manager who handled the transfer to begin with. She couldn't give any information. So he went to the house where he picked him up the day of the sale... moved. I think at this point his anxiety level was beginning to increase and he was realizing that he had been scammed. He went back to the bank, talked to the same lady and got a little information. I, being the super sleuth detective that I am, got online (ok, so I'm a nerd) and did a reverse search of the address in Idaho CJ had been given, and got a phone number. To sum up a long story, CJ ended up calling the number, getting a cell phone number, and calling this guy. It turns out, it was, in fact, just a mistake. The guy had no idea. The bank had sent CJ the title, free and clear, to give to the guy who bought the truck. The guy who bought the truck received a letter saying CJ had the title. Apparently what happened was this guy went right to work selling meat. One of the checks he received from a sale bounced, leaving him $3 short!! So it was the bank that reversed the transfer. They spoke on a Saturday night, and he was back in Salt Lake Monday morning to get cash in hand and brought it out to CJ. PHEW! But, after the adrenaline that had been pouring into CJ's blood stream for 3 days suddenly stopped... he got the stomach flu that I had and was in bed for the 4 days following. He got up for a day, just to go back down the next. Finally, yesterday he forced himself back up to take a trip, so we can pay bills this month.

Everything is all back to normal. I am feeling well. The kids are all well, and we are getting more and more anxious for our company to come on the 10th!

Another week, another drama!

Ashlyn made it through her choir auditions beautifully... all who signed up made it! We know that once she shows them what she can do though, shes gonna knock their socks off!

Grandma Shawn made her sweep through too! Thanks for the wonderful time Grandma! We sure wish you could have stayed longer!!!

We sure enjoyed our short, but sweet, visit with Grandma Shawn. We were all very spoiled, and I felt well just long enough to enjoy it! But hey, what would a month for the Larsons be without a little excitement?! CJ and I had just figured out that, dating back to the year we were married, we had taken turns with hospital stays... first Kailey was born, then CJ's brain surgery, then CJ had (what we were first told was) pancreatitis, then Canyon was born... and we all know what a fiasco that was (along with my hysterectomy), then earlier this year CJ was in for his appendix, now... my turn again! After battling a severe bout with the stomach flu on Thursday and Friday I began to feel better, and was able to spend Saturday keeping up with Grandma Shawn and the kids. Then as she left I got sick again! This was followed by a pain in my abdomen that I self-diagnosed as dehydration (I don't recommend doing this by the way). Then Sunday rolled around and I started feeling better, or worse... or better... or worse... anyway CJ and Blake were gone on a meat selling trip and I called them home. Sunday night I felt better... or worse... well, you get the point... and ended up sleeping through ,most of the night... only to have the same situation on Monday... with symptoms increasing Monday night and urging us to go to the emergency room only to find... drum roll please... a kidney stone AND a kidney infection! Just what every diabetic person wants to hear! Its ok though. With a heavy dose of antibiotics and pain killers, I will be good as new in a few days. Fortunately the stone is small (so they tell me!) so it will pass.. I can only imagine what the "big" stones feel like! I told the nurse that the only time it is ok to be in pain like that is when I'm delivering a baby! Anyway... I'm getting better! Kailey is disappointed though because it was supposed to be our week for preschool and now we'll have to wait! The dramas of being 4! Oh, but little miss Kailey did get to go on her first 3 wheeler ride this week too... I think she may have been a little more scared than Canyon though, so she made sure Daddy was going to go really slow!

Welcome to our blog!

For those of you who weren't aware, we have taken on another child for the school year... here is a little taste of my life (sorry for the poor video its the best I can do for now :0) )

This is Blake. CJ's 17 year old brother. He is joining our family for the school year because he is the most accountable teenager I know. Its a good thing that he's here and we couldn't be happier... most of the time... although I feel sometimes like CJ has a new wife... or.... well, you know what I mean! It has been great for CJ and Blake as well because, because of their age difference this is the first time they have ever had to spend together... hence, them both acting like children!

Ashlyn started 3rd grade in August! She is growing up so fast... they all are, and actually... its heartbreaking and frankly, I don't think its very fair!

This is her on the first day of school this year. She is very excited to try out for the school choir on the 12th and 13th. We'll let you know how that goes! She loves to read and sing, and would like nothing more than to play an instrument... I am not sure where she gets the talent for this!

She enjoyed a trip to Disney World with her Grandma Shawn this year. I think that may have been the highlight of her life. We are looking forward to Grandma coming to visit us on the 14th and 15th!!! We are all very excited! I think Grandma has missed her shopping buddy, but I am also sure that she has probably managed without her too!! :0)

Kailey started pre-school last week! She finally gets a chance to leave the house for a while and go to school like Ashlyn. She made sure to tell each one of us how much she was going to miss us while she was gone. (She goes Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-12.) Its a co-op in our neighborhood so there are 5 kids and on every 5th week I am the teacher at our house. It will be fun. I cant wait to see how Canyon reacts to all the kids at our house!

This is Kailey on her first day! You can almost feel the excitement. Thankfully there was not the sleepless night before school, but instead there was the waking up at 7am and asking almost exactly every 15 minutes if it was time to go yet! Really, she did great and cant wait until Wednesday comes again. The best part of that is that maybe she'll learn the days of the week and we can mark that off our to do list!

Canyon is our firecracker! The phrase "boys are just different than girls" is so true, in more than just the obvious ways. Almost from birth he has loved tractors and big trucks. He is almost in his heaven here because we live at the end of a strip of newly built or building neighborhoods, so it doesn't matter where we have to go we get to pass lots and lots of working "big trucks" and "tractors" and Canyon makes sure he yells about each one, at least a few times!

Canyon got to experience both his 2nd birthday AND his first 3 wheeler ride within a months period of time. We like to joke by saying as "boy" as he is we still need to work on him living up to his name. With 2 sisters he has the tendency to squeal a bit... but we're working on it. A few more tractors and 3 wheeler rides and we think he'll be just fine.

He had a really good time with Daddy... and Daddy promised me that he was never scared!!

CJ and I are doing well. I guess other than bragging about our kids we don't have too much else to say. We love being in Utah. He found a great neighborhood and a beautiful home. We are looking forward to a visit, not only by Grandma Shawn next week, but a visit from Mom, Dad, Grandma Sandy and Grandpa Jim, AND Derrick and Marcy and Shyla in October. Then the rest of the Larson's, with the exception of Andrew and Lisa and Candace :0( , are coming in November for Thanksgiving. And before you know it, it will be Christmas time again and we'll be headed back to Spokane. We like being the tour stop for the Larson siblings. It keeps the adventure in our lives!
